*Classes are held on 1st and 3rd Sunday afternoon of each month with some exceptions due to the school/holiday calendar.

Class Descriptions

Young Beginners Ceili Band:  An ensemble class that teaches repertoire, ensemble and performance skills.  Open to all traditional instruments. It is recommend that students enroll in either private lessons or instrument class lessons as well as Ceili Band class. Generally ages 8 to 12 yrs with 1 to 2 yrs of fiddle or flute experience. New to AJCB. Teacher: Thomas

Advanced Beginners Ceili Band:
An ensemble class that teaches repertoire, ensemble and performance skills.  Open to all traditional instruments. It is recommend that students enroll in either private lessons or instrument class lessons as well as Ceili Band class. Generally ages 10 to 14 yrs with 3 to 4 yrs fiddle or flute experiance or Suzuki book 3/4. New to AJCB. Teacher: Thomas

Intermediate Ceili Band:
An ensemble class that teaches repertoire, ensemble and performance skills.  Open to all traditional instruments. It is recommend that students enroll in either private lessons or instrument class lessons as well as Ceili Band class.  Ages 10-14yrs with 2-4 yrs experience; at least 1 prior AJCB class. Teacher: Sherwood

Advanced Ceili Band:
An ensemble class that teaches repertoire, ensemble and performance skills.  Open to all traditional instruments. It is recommend that students enroll in either private lessons or instrument class lessons as well as Ceili Band class. 13 yrs through high school with multiple years in AJCB; extensive repetoire and strong musicial performance skills on instrument.  Maturity shown for stage performance and class behavior. Students also perform under the names: Celtica and Seamrog. Teacher: Thomas

Whistle Class:  Teaching for absolute beginners to intermediate adults.  Students can buy inexpensive whistle on line.  Please search for a tin whistle in the key of D. They run from $10 to $25 and are a low cost way to begin Irish music training. Teacher: White.

Flute Class:  Irish flute is for students that have previous classical flute experience and will focus on learning tunes with ornamentation as well as exploring Irish flute technique. Teacher: Sherwood.





General Information


Class Meeting Time:  Each class meets the first and third Sunday morning of each month with exceptions for school and public holidays. 

Age Requirements: Student classes are open for children and teens ages 8 to 18 yrs.  Private lessons are available for adults.

Uniform Requirements:  Students will be required to wear school uniforms for group performance.
Casual Uniform:  AJCB T-shirt with jeans.
Formal Uniform:Boys and Girls ages 12 yrs and younger wear Red AJCB embroidered polo shirts ($20) with black pants or black skirts and black tights; black shoes and black socks.  Young Men 13 yrs+ wear Black/Red striped ties, black oxford shirt, black pants with black dress shoes and socks.  Young Ladies 13 yrs+ will select uniforms as a class. Uniforms will not be available for purchase until November.

Registration Fee:  One time $25 yearly fee. This fee covers the cost of your AJCB t-shirt, instrument case tag, and other costs. 

Class fees: 
Class fee covers lessons, events, etc. per month.  Large group classes $50, Small group classes $60.  Please see payment information below for more details. All checks should be made to: Atlanta Junior Ceili Band, LLC


AJCB Policies

Attendance:  Students are expected to attend class regularly.  Missed classes will not be refunded.  If a teacher can not attend the class at the regularly schedule time he/she will notify the students by email in a timely manner and offer a rescheduled class convenient to the majority of students.

Class Expectations: Students are expected to arrive for class 5 minutes before the start of class time to prepare their instrument and music.  All students must bring the following to class: instrument in working condition, three ring notebook or music folder, recording device. Students are expected to have good learning attitudes as well as show respect towards the teacher, peers and other adults.

Payment: Payment is due Quarterly.  Payment due dates are: September 11, November 7, January 9 and  March 5.  You may pay a full year or semester in advance if desired. Students and parents will receive payment notices one week prior to payment due date via email and/or Facebook.  Late payments will receive a payment invoice and a $5 late fee.  Payments guarantee students 2 monthly classes from (Sept- April), Ceili Dance performance/session, Spring Recital,  parent/ student orientation, Back to School Workshop, email updates on Irish music activities in our community,  assistance in instrument acquisition and for all
administrative costs and studio rental. There will be additional music workshops throughout the year. 

These payment amounts are due on the above four dates throughout the year: Large group classes: $100/ Small group classes $120

Discounts: If two or more siblings are enrolled in Ceili Band classes, then the third sibling is free.  All siblings must pay the Registration Fee.

Performances:  All students are invited to perform at The Atlanta Irish Music School Recital.  Students in Ceili Band classes will be invited and expected to attend and perform at additional performances throughout the year.  However, enrollment in 'Ceili Band' does not guarantee student involvement in all ceili band  performances.  Students wishing to perform at in ceili band shows must demonstrate  memorization of music with correct style and ornamentation as well as strong musicianship on instrument fundamentals.  In addition, students must have a positive attitude towards peers and teachers as well as  a commitment to musical excellence and good stage performance etiquette.

Music Competitions/ Fleadh:  All students will be encourage to participate in local music competitions and national Fleadh Cheoils.  Students will be encouraged to enroll in both solo and duet competitions. 


Private Lessons:  Private Lessons will be set up between the Private Lesson teacher and parent. Checks will be paid directly to the Private Lessons teacher, not to the AJCB or AIMS.
